Rescue Overload and Shelterluv
More dogs in NGWP rescue than ever and donations needed!

In April this year, I was able to provide boots on the ground time to our rescue by travelling to Virginia with a friend and GWP lover to transport 5 dogs to a foster in Ohio. We were on the road for about 16 hours, but successfully completed our mission. These 5 dogs were a part of a total of 12 GWPs that we rescued because the owner was unable to provide adequate care for them. And the rescue intake valve from other sources did not stop. Another dog in rescue was pregnant and delivered healthy 7 puppies, all of which needed homes. We have more dogs in rescue than ever. Many of the dogs required neutering or spaying and others have medical issues that must be addressed. Three required surgery for entropion.
Because we have so many dogs all over the country and needed a more organized way to track them, we explored several online shelter programs. After some demos, we chose Shelterluv because it is relatively user friendly and economic. After many, many hours of learning and configuring, we have our current dogs and some of our recent adoptions entered in the system. We are able to link directly with our website to keep the adoptable GWP’s section up to date. Anytime a dog is entered in Shelterluv and is available for adoption, it will automatically appear on our website with the ability to sort the dogs by specific attributes, sex, age, etc. When a dog is adopted, it is taken off the list.
Each dog has a “kennel card” with more details about the dog, including any attributes (does well with kids, does not do well with cats, etc.) and photos.
Eventually we will be connected to AKC Reunite, Chewy, and Petfinder. The link to Petfinder will allow all of our adoptable dogs to be visible on there site.
Shelterpay allows an invoice to be sent by text and/or email when an adoption is approved. In addition, when a dog is adopted, the new owner is offered pet insurance and the ability to donate to our rescue. We also have a new link that takes users directly to our site on Shelterpay for donations and the ability for donors to text to donate. https://checkout.shelterluv.com/donate/GWPR
By texting “gwpr” to 89871, donations can be made by phone. When money is paid through Shelterpay for adoptions or donations, it is quickly deposited into our bank account.
While this technology is invaluable in tracking all of our rescue dogs, we still struggle to maintain fiscal stability due to the medical issues and surgeries required with new dogs coming into rescue. While these tools make it easier to donate, we still need our GWP lovers continued support.

About Us
National GWP Rescue is a nationwide rescue program whose volunteers work tirelessly to provide funding, foster homes, medical care and training for GWPs found in shelters, animal control facilities and to those GWPs whose current owners are unable to provide a suitable situation.
Working hand- in-hand with governmental and local shelters, NGWPR provides a safe and responsible home for GWP’s in need. Placed with an experienced GWPCA member, fostered GWPs that have been neglected, untrained or have medical issues quickly blossom as they are readied for their “forever” homes.
Prior to releasing our rescued GWPs for adoption, volunteers provide obedience, manners, and house training. We hold to the philosophy that a mannerly dog has a better chance of fitting into a new household.
NGWPR believes that Wires were designed to hunt and unlike some other rescue programs, we are happy to place dogs with field experience or bird instinct with potential owners who enjoy hunting behind a Wire. However, NGWPR insists that any rescue dog first be a house dog and companion, then a weekend hunting partner.
